The Parade of Homes opens for its last weekend today, with 43 homes around Knoxville open to anyone who wants to walk through them. The doors are open noon to 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday, Oct. 23 to 25, and there are no tickets to buy.

The Home Builders Association of Greater Knoxville runs the tour. This is its 45th year, and the group's executive vice president, Ashley Burnette, called it "one of the longest-running Parade of Homes in the nation," the Farragut Press reported.

The homes are spread across Blount, Knox, Loudon, Roane and Sevier counties in East Tennessee. The builders or their representatives are on hand at each one.

From $306,000 to $5 million

Prices on the tour run from about $306,000 to more than $5 million, Burnette said. The lineup mixes model homes, spec homes and custom builds, plus one remodeled house, according to the association's Parade site.

The tour opened Oct. 9 and has run every Friday, Saturday and Sunday since. Burnette told the Farragut Press she expected "very strong" attendance this year. She also said the association and its members put "tens of millions of dollars" into the East Tennessee economy through the Parade each year.

Printed magazines with the full list of homes are at every Parade house, and the association's website has the map. ORNL Federal Credit Union and Tindell's Building Materials co-sponsor the event.

Builders' busiest summer

The Parade comes at the end of a busy season for new houses. We wrote last week about Knoxville's busy season for new-home permits.

Visitors can still vote for their favorite house. People's Choice voting stays open through the last day of the Parade, Oct. 25.
