Kyle is changing course on some of the roundabouts in its road program. At the Oct. 20 meeting, the Kyle, Texas, City Council received a consultant's analysis of six priority intersections that had been marked for roundabouts, kept roundabouts at two, switched two to a different design and put the last two on hold, Community Impact reported.
The review grew out of an Aug. 18 vote, when council approved an almost $500,000 reevaluation of 12 intersections. The first six were on the Oct. 20 agenda: West Center Street at Old Stagecoach Road, Kohlers Crossing at Sanders, Kohlers Crossing at Benner, Windy Hill at Cherrywood, Lehman Road at Bunton Creek Road, and Goforth Road at Bunton Creek Road. Consultant Rodriguez Transportation Group recommended something other than a roundabout at four of them.
Where the plans landed
- Roundabouts stay: Center Street at Old Stagecoach Road, and Goforth Road at Bunton Creek Road.
- Switch to continuous Green-T with a traffic signal: Windy Hill Road at Cherrywood, and Lehman Road at Bunton Creek Road. The Windy Hill change will delay that project and cost the city an additional $500,000. The Lehman Road change will add $1.5 million to $2.5 million in total costs.
- On hold: Kohlers Crossing at Sanders and Kohlers Crossing at Benner.
City Engineer Leon Barba said the timing hurt. "It's unfortunate we didn't have this information 3 years ago," he said. "I think we could have saved millions of dollars."

The Kohlers Crossing question
Roundabout designs for both Kohlers Crossing intersections are already at 100% design completion, according to Community Impact. If council went with traditional traffic signals there instead, the city would save $1.2 million, though a switch would add the cost of new designs.
Council voted to table both Kohlers Crossing decisions until the vacant District 3 seat is filled. Council called a Dec. 12 election for that seat, and if the race goes to a runoff, the new council member will not be qualified to serve until January 2027.
What's next
The Kohlers Crossing decisions return to council once the District 3 seat is filled. The Windy Hill redesign will delay that project. The study covered 12 intersections in all, and the results presented so far cover the six priority locations.
